Houston Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (H-LSAMP) is an academic excellence program designed for outstanding high school students, who are interested in pursuing degrees in the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. This scholarship is funded by the National Science Foundation and awarded by the LSAMP scholarship office. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The only four majors supported are chemistry, computer science, mathematics, and physics.

Eligibility Criteria

Level 1: President’s Award
Applicants must have a high school grade point average of at least 3.8; SAT scores of 550 or better on math and 550 or better on the verbal; ACT scores of 23 or better on math and 23 or better on the verbal; completion of a rigorous high school curriculum, which includes three years of science and mathematics (mathematics courses through pre-calculus but calculus preferred) with grades of “B” or better; and interest in majoring in chemistry, computer science, mathematics, or physics.

Level 2: Provost’s Award
Applicants must have a high school grade point average of at least 3.7; SAT scores of 475 or better on math and 475 or better on the verbal; ACT scores of 21 or better on math and 21 or better on the verbal; completion of a rigorous high school curriculum, which includes three years of science and mathematics (mathematics courses through pre-calculus but calculus preferred) with grades of “B” or better; and interest in majoring in chemistry, computer science, mathematics, or physics.

Level 3: Dean’s Award
Applicants must have a grade point average of at least 3.0; graduation in the first quartile of a senior class; SAT scores of 450 or better on math and 450 or better on the verbal; ACT scores of 19 or better on math and 19 or better on the verbal; completion of a rigorous high school curriculum, which includes three years of science and mathematics (mathematics courses through pre-calculus but calculus preferred) with grades of “B” or better; and interest in majoring in chemistry, computer science, mathematics, or physics.

Fiscal Value of Each Award

  • President’s Award: $12,000 per year
  • Provost’s Award: $11,000 per year
  • Dean’s Award: $2,000 – $10,000 per year
