Carme Williams, CFRE, named Advancement Consultant-Interim Vice President of Development and Alumni Affairs
Carme Williams, CFRE, a veteran fundraising executive with almost three decades of experience serving higher education institutions and non-profits has been named Advancement Consultant-Interim Vice President of Development and Alumni Affairs at Texas Southern University. In this new role, Williams will provide oversight to the University’s fundraising operation.
“Texas Southern University is a staple in our community, and I am excited to join the team for the next year to build upon the strong foundation for fundraising success that has been laid,” Williams said. “TSU’s mission is as critical today as it has ever been. As the University continues to build world-class programs to prepare her students for the careers of tomorrow, I look forward to working with the development team to engage our faithful alumni and friends to raise the funding needed to advance the university into her next chapter.”
Williams comes to TSU with an impeccable track record of success in helping universities and non-profits achieve their philanthropic goals. She is a Senior Consultant with Washburn & McGoldrick, one of the leading higher education advancement firms in the nation. Prior to joining Washburn & McGoldrick, she served as Vice President of Development for Prairie View A&M University. During her time at Prairie View, ongoing philanthropic revenue grew by 48 percent.
Prior to Prairie View A&M, Williams served as the Senior Vice President of Development at the Harris Foundation, managing all of the Foundation’s fundraising efforts. She also served as the Executive Director of the Houston Community College Foundation, where she secured a $7.5 million gift for the Firefighter Academy at HCC. She also spent eight years at Rice University as a Regional Major Gifts Director of Development and School of Humanities Director of Development during the $1 billion Centennial Campaign.

Williams received a bachelors degree from the Poole College of Management at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC and received her Certified Fundraising Executive certification in 2009. She served on the NC State University Wolfpack Women in Philanthropy Steering Committee as the inaugural Chair of the Philanthropy Committee and is a current member of the North Carolina State University Foundation Board. Williams is also a board member of the United Nations Houston Chapter, the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce, the Charitable Planned Giving Council of Houston, and African-American Development Officers (AADO).
