TSU Professor and Scientist Addresses United Nations Science Summit

TSU Professor of biology Dr. Alamelu Sundaresan traveled to New York this semester to serve as a distinguished guest speaker for the UN General Assembly Science Summit.

The summit is considered a paramount gathering of global thought leaders, scientists, policymakers, and experts from various fields. It aims to address the most pressing scientific challenges facing our world today and foster meaningful dialogue and collaboration for sustainable development.

Dr. Sundaresan participated in a panel, along with other global experts, entitled: “Building Sustainable Food and Health Future Using Artificial Intelligence Technologies and Methodologies.”

“It was an honor to represent Texas Southern University on this global stage,” she said. “The discussions that take place at gatherings like this summit are vital to our global economy and citizenry. I look forward to the continued dialogue and research that we know will impact the world around us for years to come.”

Dr. Sundaresan is the Interim Chair of the Department of Biology. She has been a professor at TSU since 2005. Her research interests include development of three-dimensional human tissue engineering models, expression of key immune changes under immune suppressed conditions such as microgravity and cancer, and more.
