Texas Southern University’s aviation program soared into the national spotlight with a feature on NBC News.

The university welcomed a Houston-based NBC News crew to campus to shoot video of the airplane simulators and the airport simulation laboratory and conduct interviews with Executive Director of Aviation Dr. Terence Fontaine and senior professional pilot student Paul Griffin.

“I am beyond proud of the aviation program and all it has accomplished in a relatively short time,” said Dr. Terence Fontaine, Executive Director of Aviation. “Our students, faculty, staff, alumni, partners, and advisory board members have worked tirelessly over the years to elevate the program to one of the premier college programs in the nation. As we continue to experience unprecedented growth, we are grateful for NBC taking note of the work we’re doing to address a need and sharing our work with their national audience.”

The crew also traveled to Ellington Airport, where they interviewed TSU alumna and Flight Instructor Katherine Cabrera and sophomore Jeuel Calhoun.

“Historically, Texas Southern University has trained leaders who provide solutions to the problems facing our communities and our nation,” said Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications Tracy Clemons. “We work daily to tell our story and ensure our media partners know all the wonderful things happening on campus. It is with great excitement and joy that we were able to witness the national spotlight on a program that is unique to our university. We look forward to more opportunities to share our innovative and outstanding academic programs on national platforms.”
