Welcome to the TSU SHAPE Initiative

The TSU S.H.A.P.E. Initiative (TSI) is a Texas Southern University and community-based partnership established by the Department of Social Work and funded by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration). S.H.A.P.E. stands for Substance Use, Mental Health, HIV/AIDS Prevention Education. TSI addresses these health disparities by offering student and community members free and confidential health screenings in-person and virtually, community-based referrals, and service linkage as based on its motto: Awareness, Action, and Empowerment. TSI is single initiative comprised of two programs: CHANGE and YES.

Change through Healing, Awareness, Networks, and Gateways to Empowerment (C.H.A.N.G.E.)

Established in 2014, TSI C.H.A.N.G.E. conducts free HIV, Hepatitis-C, drug and alcohol use screenings, case management support, and community-based referrals for TSU students and community members 18+ who live, work or attend school in the 3rd and 5th Ward communities and throughout the Greater Houston community. Through a variety of engagement and awareness activities both on and off campus, C.H.A.N.G.E. is shifting the narrative around sexual health with informative education sessions and outreach.

If you are 18+ and would like to sign up for a C.H.A.N.G.E. sexual, mental health and/or case management service assessment, please select this link: Sign Up Here.

Youth/Young Adult Empowerment Services (Y.E.S.)

In 2018, TSI Y.E.S. was established with a focus on empowering youth (13-17) and young adults (18-24). The new program doubled TSI’s capacity to deliver and expand currently offered engagement and health services along with new STI screenings. The Y.E.S. program is a welcome addition to TSI, and it is dedicated to continuing to serve students and community members living, working, or attending school in the 3rd and 5th Ward communities and throughout the Greater Houston community.

If you are 18-24 and would like to sign up for a Y.E.S. full STI service assessment, please select this link: Sign Up Here.
