TSU Tiger student-athletes are back on campus and have reported to their respective camps to begin preparations for the Fall 2016 season. Tiger football, volleyball and soccer teams are getting ready for Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) competition.

Tigers football training camp opened on August 6 with 94 student-athletes. Team members will reap the benefit of a $1 million renovation to the field house that included structural repairs plus a complete makeover of the players’ lounge and the teams' meeting, locker and rest rooms. The practice field at Alexander Durley Stadium was upgraded and new turf was installed.

"This is an exciting time of the year for our players and staff as we get ready for a very challenging schedule right out of the gate. We'll prepare for each game every week with the same discipline and focus as no one game is bigger than the other,” said new football Head Coach Michael Haywood.

The TSU Tigers will kick-off the 2016 season when they battle the Prairie View A&M Panthers in Prairie View, Texas. The Labor Day Classic will be broadcast live on ESPNU on Sunday, September 4 at 5:00 pm.

The Lady Tigers volleyball camp is in full swing under the direction of Head Coach Jocelyn Adams. Last season, the Lady Tigers extended their winning streak, bringing home anotherdivision title, but fell short of winning a conference championship. The volleyball team will open the season at the SWAC Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament on August 26 in Birmingham, Alabama.

"Camp 2016 is progressing well," Adams said. "We have everyone ready to go and the overall atmosphere has been very upbeat and focused. The seniors, including 2016 SWAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year middle blocker and hitter Kali Fluke, have really been the center and core of camp."

The Lady Tigers soccer team is preparing for the upcoming season with 23 student-athletes. The team will be a mix of veterans and newcomers. Last season, under the direction of third-year Head Coach Kathryn Saunders, the Lady Tigers posted a 6-4 SWAC record. The team ranked in the top half of league standings and in several statistical categories. The soccer team kicks-off its campaign against the University of Houston Lady Cougars on August 19 at 7:00 pm. Their first home game will be on August 21 at 1:00 pm at Durley Stadium versus Texas A&M-Texarkana.
