Roland Martin to deliver TSU Commencement address

Roland Martin, an award-winning print, radio and television journalist who is a host on TV One, will be the keynote speaker at Spring Commencement exercises at Texas Southern University on Saturday, May 12. TSU will hold two ceremonies at 8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and Martin will speak at both events.

Martin is the executive producer and host of Roland Martin Unfiltered, a daily podcast, and the creator of AllThat.TV, a digital lifestyle and information website. He is a senior analyst for the Tom Joyner Morning Show, a syndicated radio program that airs on 90 stations nationwide and a contributor on CNN. He has received a Peabody Award, three NAACP Image awards and was named Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Louisiana Baptist University with a Master’s degree in Christian Communications.

“Texas Southern is honored to have Roland Martin, a Houston native and graduate of nearby Jack Yates High School, share his dynamic and unique insight with our graduates,” said TSU President Austin A. Lane. “This University strives to create a memorable Commencement experience for our students and their proud families. We are proud to continue our 90-year legacy of excellence.”

Texas Southern will hold two ceremonies for the first time in University history. Ceremony One will begin at 8:00 a.m. The exercise will include candidates from the graduate and professional programs, Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and the College of Education. Ceremony Two will begin at 12:30 p.m. The exercise will include candidates from the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, College of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences, Jesse H. Jones School of Business, and the School of Communication.
