Texas Southern enhances Commencement experience

Texas Southern University will hold two ceremonies for the 2018 Spring Commencement. Ceremony One will start at 8:00 a.m. and Ceremony Two will begin at 12:30 p.m.

“Commencement is a momentous occasion for the students, faculty, and staff of Texas Southern University,” said TSU President Austin A. Lane. “Each year, we strive to make our graduation exercises memorable for our graduates and their families. Last year, we reached a major milestone and had the largest graduating class in school history. This spring, we expect an even larger number of candidates and want to be prepared to accommodate our students and their loved ones.”

The Commencement Committee – comprised of TSU faculty, staff, and students with support from the Faculty Senate and Student Government Association representatives –wanted to enhance the graduation experience. Ceremony One will begin at 8:00 a.m. The exercise will include candidates from the graduate and professional programs, Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and the College of Education.

Ceremony Two will begin at 12:30 p.m. The exercise will include candidates
from the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, College of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences, Jesse H. Jones School of Business, and the School of Communication.

Commencement exercises will remain in the H&PE Arena at Texas Southern.

TSU’s Office of University Advancement will coordinate both ceremonies in conjunction with the provost, deans, registrar and the Office of Student Services. The University’s Department of Public Safety will manage traffic flow and parking to provide an efficient and smooth transition between the two events.
