Art student exhibit set to open June 30 at University Museum

HOUSTON (June 26, 2018) – The collective work from 21 art majors at Texas Southern University is the focus of an innovative new exhibit.

HOUSTON (June 26, 2018) – The collective work from 21 art majors at Texas Southern University is the focus of an innovative new exhibit. Changing of the Guard: Emerging Artists of 2018steps out of the artistic norm by combining various stories, symbols and themes with social, cultural and political issues through mixed media art.

The exhibition will open Saturday, June 30 and run through Sunday August 19, 2018. A special opening night presentation will be held on Friday, June 29 at 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

The student artists used various mediums to execute their vision including wood, ceramics, clay, paper, acrylic/oils, digital and found objects. The art is presented in different configurations, reflecting several techniques and styles. Featured artists include Kaamil Abdullah-Smoot, Tyler Allen, Joshua Arthur, Raheem Bellard, Dreana Booker, Angela Craig, Chanise Epps, Alesandra Fuller, Jade Haskins, Chris Lewis, Annie Palmer, Keila Perez, Prell Pickens, Klo Lay Pla, Jazmyn Proctor, Rodolfo Santiago, Avion Sauls, Faith Schwartz, Chasity Smith, Brittany Torres and John Upshaw.
