KTSU moves up in national ranking

HOUSTON (June 20, 2018) – KTSU-FM 90.9, the community radio station on the campus of Texas Southern
University has been ranked #29 nationwide in public radio, according to a report by Nielsen Audio via the Radio Research Consortium. KTSU has been a cultural and community anchor in the Houston community for 47 years.


The radio station is reaching 269,500 listeners through traditional airwaves on 90.9 FM and 186,294 listeners through
ktsuradio.com/listenlive-2/ − the station’s online streaming service. KTSU offers a full menu of music, including being the #1 source for Jazz, and focuses on other genres such as R&B Oldies, Blues, Zydeco, Reggae, Latin, Hip-Hop and Gospel. The station gives its audience a full slate of public affairs programming, including Impact Houston Live, Real World, Real Talk, The Shift, and Tiger Tuesday featuring Melinda Spaulding. KTSU is also the home of TSU athletics, broadcasting live basketball and football games every season.


“We have spent the last two years focusing on enhancing our programming, both locally and globally. Our collaborations with the music and arts community, local businesses, and other non-profit organizations has increased our overall reach,” said Ernest Walker, general manager of KTSU. “Our mission has always been to educate, empower, elevate, and inspire our students and community. We are the heart and soul of Houston.”


KTSU, founded on June 23, 1972, is celebrating its 47th anniversary on the air. The station’s staff, in cooperation with University professors, have trained numerous on-air personalities, audio engineers and radio producers to be prepared to step into careers in the broadcasting and media industry. KTSU 90.0FM is licensed to the University and its Board of Regents.
