KTSU2 Launch Day

Texas Southern University launched its first student-run, live-stream radio station, KTSU2 – The Voice. The historic day included words of encouragement from President Austin A. Lane, Ph.D.; Provost Kendall Harris, Ph.D.; Vice President of University Advancement Melinda Spaulding; General Manager of KTSU Ernest Walker; Interim Dean of the School of Communication Dr. Rockell Brown-Burton; and Interim Assistant Dean and Professor Serbino Sandifer-Walker. Additionally, a representative from the Mayor of Houston’s office, student on-air personality Harrison J. Richmond, and  Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (calling in from Cyprus) provided comments.
“This is 44 years in the making,” said Sandifer-Walker. “We have worked so hard to get to this point.”

Students will be able to receive hands on training that will prepare them for life a career in the ever-changing media field.

“We have a world class set of faculty that have incredible experience,” said Dr. Lane, “We will continue to invest in our students so they can continue on into the work force.”


After the brief ceremony, a ribbon cutting was held and KTSU2 students conducted tours of the KTSU2 studios.

“We look forward to bringing the best content possible,” said Richmond. “This is another opportunity to bring everyone together.”
