Rockell Brown-Burton

Dr. Rockell Brown-Burton, interim dean of the School of Communication, is one of nine Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication members who were selected to participate in the 2019-20 class of AEJMC's Institute for Diverse Leadership in Journalism and Communication. The Institute is designed for people of color and women who are interested in academic leadership opportunities.
“It’s exciting to have the opportunity to interact with peers and colleagues that want to see more inclusion and diversity,” said Brown-Burton. “I’m looking forward to being paired with a mentor and learning best practices in higher education and mass communication.”
These fellows will convene for the first time during AEJMC's Toronto Conference in August and will participate in other sessions throughout their fellowship year.  The Institute is co-sponsored by AEJMC and the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Brown-Burton also mentioned how excited she was to follow in the footsteps of  another TSU faculty member, Dr. Vera Hawkins, associate professor of Journalism, who was appointed to the 2018-19 class of AEJMC’s Institute for Diverse Leadership in Journalism and Communication.
