Texas Southern University proudly congratulates Jazmine Gendorf, the Summer 2023 Salutatorian, whose journey from Waco to Houston has been marked by academic excellence, athletic prowess, and a commitment to making a positive impact on the world.

Academic Achievements and Future Aspirations

Jazmine's academic journey at TSU was defined by her major in Political Science and minor in Pre-Law. Earning the prestigious title of Salutatorian, she plans to continue her educational journey in law school, preferably Thurgood Marshall School of Law. She plans to focus on family law, particularly advocating for the well-being of children and involvement with Child Protective Services (CPS).

From Waco to Houston: Embracing New Experiences

Hailing from Waco, Texas, Jazmine desired to step outside her comfort zone and explore new horizons in a new city. TSU became the catalyst for this change, providing her with a vibrant and diverse community in Houston. Now, having experienced the rich culture of the city and the university, she is determined to stay in Houston, further contributing to the community that has become her second home.

A Passion for Softball and Life Lessons Learned

Jazmine's journey as a student-athlete began at the age of six, and her dedication to softball has been unwavering. Playing in high school and continuing into collegiate-level competition, she acknowledges the unique lessons that sports bring, especially in the more intense and serious college environment. Though she'll miss the game, Jazmine looks back with fondness, appreciating the sport for the values and perspectives it has instilled in her.

Homecoming and Community Connection

For Jazmine, one of the most cherished memories at TSU is Homecoming. Jazmine describes homecoming as a time to reunite with alumni, forge new connections, and experience the warm embrace of the TSU community. Homecoming holds a special place in her heart as a time for networking, where old and new friendships can become unexpected sources of additional support and professional guidance.

The Significance of HBCUs: A Source of Pride

Reflecting on her journey, Jazmine emphasizes the pride she takes in attending a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). For her, the significance lies in the rich history and representation that HBCUs embody, fostering an environment of unity, diversity, and shared accomplishment.

A Message to Little Jazz

In a heartfelt message to her younger self, Jazmine encourages "Little Jazz" to believe in her own strength and abilities. As someone who never envisioned becoming a salutatorian, Jazmine underscores the importance of faith, resilience, and self-understanding. Her message is one of empowerment, reminding her younger self that she can overcome any obstacle that comes her way.

As Jazmine Gendorf embarks on the next chapter of her academic and professional journey, Texas Southern University celebrates her accomplishments and looks forward to the positive impact she will undoubtedly make in the legal field and beyond. Jazmine is not only the Summer 2023 Salutatorian, but she is also a testament to the resilience and success that TSU graduates embody. We wish her continued success as she pursues her dreams.
