Veterans Affairs Scholarships
For many, the cost of college tuition can be overwhelming. Do not let the prospect of paying for school scare you. There are literally thousands of organizations that offer scholarships to military veterans and their dependents and they are waiting for someone just like you to apply.
To assist our Veterans and their dependents with the pursuit of receiving a college education, we have made it our goal to seek out as many resources that we can find, and to make them available to you right here.
Military Scholarships at Scholarships.com:
More than 1.4 million Americans have made the choice to serve their country. The brave men and women who voluntarily invest their time in the United States Military are some of the well-respected citizens of the country. Choosing to enter the military should not forfeit your dreams of receiving a college education. Whether you are a member of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, or Navy there are a number of college scholarships and grants available for service members, veterans and their families.
AFCEA War Veterans Scholarship:
Merit-based scholarships of varying amounts will be awarded to persons on active duty in the uniformed military services and to honorably discharged U.S. military veterans (including Reservists and National Guard personnel) who are currently enrolled and attending classes part time or full time in an eligible degree program at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
VADM Samuel L. Gravely Memorial Scholarship:
AMERICAN SYSTEMS has partnered with AFCEA to offer two $2,500 VADM Samuel L. Gravely Memorial Scholarships for STEM students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree attending a four-year Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the United States.
Applicants will be considered for all AFCEA STEM Major scholarship opportunities for which they qualify. Applications will be accepted from current eligible undergraduate level students majoring in STEM fields to include cybersecurity, intelligence, and homeland security-related disciplines. Online programs are eligible. Includes Undergraduate Diversity Scholarship and Cyber Security Scholarship.
American Legion Legacy Scholarship:
The American Legion’s Legacy Scholarship provides college funding to children of post-9/11 veterans who died on active duty, or those who have a combined VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater.
Pat Tilman Foundation Scholarship:
Every year, the Pat Tillman Foundation receives thousands of applications from remarkable service members, veterans, and military spouses nationwide. We choose up to 60 individuals who are looking to change lives, one by one, on the ground. Tillman Scholars have served their country and believe their best years of service are ahead of them. They are committed to strengthening communities at home and around the world.
Each year, seven AMVETS Scholarships are awarded for up to $4,000 each to active-duty military personnel, honorably discharged veterans, reserves, spouses, and children or grandchildren who demonstrate financial need for tuition assistance to afford enrollment into any accredited degree program. Eligible candidates must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, be U.S. citizens, provide evidence of active duty or veteran status, and not be in default on any federal student loans.
The Army Women’s Foundation Legacy Scholarship Program:
With the mission of honoring the service of women in the Army, the Army Women’s Foundation Legacy Scholarship program grants up to $2,500 to assist female undergraduate or graduate students at accredited U.S. institutions who are serving or have served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, or Army National Guard. Qualified candidates who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better must submit an application form, essay, transcript, recommendations, and proof of active duty or veteran status from a commanding officer.
Dolphin Scholarship Foundation:
On a competitive basis, the Dolphin Scholarship Fund provides up to 115 annual scholarships for $3,400 to unmarried children or stepchildren under the age of 24 who are dependent on active-duty members of the Navy’s Submarine Force that have served in submarine support activities for at least eight years. Selection for the renewable award is based on academic proficiency, demonstrated financial need for assistance, and commitment to involvement in extra-curricular school or community activities.
Fisher House Foundation Scholarship for Military Children:
Funded through the generosity of the Defense Commissary Agency, the Fisher House Foundation awards several Scholarships for Military Children for up to $2,000 apiece to unmarried sons and daughters of active duty, reserve/guard, or retired military commissary customers who will be enrolled full-time in a four-year undergraduate degree program. Eligible applicants must be attending a U.S. accredited institution, be under 23 years old, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Hope for the Warriors Spouse/Caregiver Scholarship:
Each year, the Hope for Warriors Foundation offers the Spouse/Caregiver Scholarships in recognition of military spouses and caregivers for their strength and resolve despite adversity as financial assistance for continuing education at an accredited U.S. institution. For consideration, it is required that applicants submit an application, certification form, proof of military injury or death, an original essay discussing academic achievement and personal goals, a two-page questionnaire, and two letters of recommendation.
Imagine America’s Military Award Program (MAP):
Imagine America’s Military Award Program (MAP) was established to provide $1,000 scholarships for active-duty military personnel, reservists, honorably discharged military veterans, and retired veterans of the U.S. armed forces who have decided to pursue career college training. Qualified applicants must be enrolling in a participating accredited U.S. institution, display good academic potential for successfully completing postsecondary education, and demonstrate financial need for assistance.
Joanne Holbrook Patton Military Spouse Scholarships:
Sponsored by the National Military Family Association, the Joanne Holbrook Patton Military Spouse Scholarships award up to $5,000 to spouses of all active duty, national guard or reserve, and retired uniformed services members for use in attending vocational training and degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate programs. In order to qualify for the funding, military spouses must provide a copy of their marriage certificate, a military verification document, and a signed scholarship agreement form.
Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation:
In all 50 states and internationally, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation provides life-changing educational opportunities with scholarships up to $30,000 each for the children of active duty, reserve, and veteran U.S. Marines and Navy Corpsmen who have served alongside Marines. Qualified candidates must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, have a family adjusted gross income that does not exceed $93,000 for the current tax year, and plan to attend an accredited undergraduate U.S. institution.
Paralyzed Veterans of America Scholarships:
As a program devised to provide some financial reprieve to assist wounded military members and their families with reaching their post-secondary educational goals, the Paralyzed Veterans of America Scholarships are awarded for $3,000 to paralyzed veterans members, their spouses, and their unmarried dependent children under 24 years old. Qualified candidates must be U.S. citizens, be accepted or currently enrolled as a full-time or part-time student in an accredited institution, and maintain good academic progress.
Tailhook Educational Foundation Scholarships:
Each year, the Tailhook Educational Foundation offers scholarships for up to $22,000 to high school graduates who are the natural, step or adopted child or grandchild of a current or former Naval or Marine Corps Aviator, Flight Officer, or Aircrewman. Eligible applicants must be related to a service member who is serving or has served onboard a U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier, be accepted for undergraduate enrollment at an accredited U.S. institution, and demonstrate financial need.
Wings Over America Foundation Scholarships:
Annually, the Wings over America Foundation provides college scholarships for up to $5,000 to dependent children and spouses of all U.S. Navy personnel who are serving in active duty, retired, honorably discharged, or deceased. Qualified candidates must be the natural-born child or legal spouse of any officer or enlisted who served within Naval Air Forces for consideration. Recipients will be selected based on scholastic merit, financial need, and community-service involvement.
